Tropical downpours and a taste of early fall this weekend in Ontario

While the weekend in Ontario will kick off on a more tropical note, people will also be getting an early taste of fall

If you have any outdoor plans this weekend, you'll want to pay close attention to the forecast.

Our long range forecast features tropical downpours for Friday, a taste of early fall-like weather for Saturday and Sunday and a return to pleasant summer weather next week. Please read on for all the details.

Friday

Friday will be a very humid day with periods of rain and thunderstorms and a threat for torrential downpours, especially for areas to the east of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) as the remnants of tropical storm Debby track south and east of our region.

Southern Ontario Friday forecast Aug 7 2024

We are closely watching the risk for localized flooding across eastern Ontario and southern Quebec, including Ottawa and Montreal, where rainfall totals of 50 to 100+mm are possible.

During Friday evening, rain and thunderstorms will continue across eastern Ontario, but the sky will slowly clear from west to east for areas to the west and north of Toronto.

Southern Ontario Saturday forecast Aug 7 2024

These showers will actually be lake-enhanced showers, triggered by the chilly air crossing the relatively warm waters of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

Sunday

Sunday will bring a taste of early fall-like weather with a gusty northwest wind. Temperatures will remain in the upper teens across much of Cottage Country and only reach the lower 20s across the Greater Toronto Area and the Niagara region.

Southern Ontario Sunday forecast Aug 7 2024

Passing showers are likely on Sunday, but most of the day will be rain-free for areas near and south of the 401-corridor. However, showers will be more widespread and frequent across cottage country and spreading east across much of eastern Ontario.

While this weekend will feel more like September rather than August, summer is definitely not over. Temperatures will slowly rebound next week with abundant sunshine.

Isolated showers are still possible on Monday, but temperatures will be closer to seasonal.

Southern Ontario Monday forecast Aug 7 2024

The middle and end of next week will be mostly sunny with seasonal temperatures. Isolated showers are still possible, but next week will be much drier and less humid than most of the summer has been thus far.
