Popularized for its canals in lieu of roadways, Venice is a vacation spot that sees all four seasons in a year. Summers are generally quite warm and wet, while winters are chilly and slightly less precipitous. Spring and autumn act as transitional periods where temperature changes and weather conditions are very gradual.
During the summer months, Venice experiences air temperatures averaging between 19°C and 28°C. Although rainfall is consistent for most of the year, July and August see slightly less precipitation than other months outside of winter.
It’s prohibited to swim in the famous Venetian canals, but there are a number of beaches where cooling off from the summer heat makes a popular day trip for tourists and locals. Water temperatures during the summer months range from 23°C to 26°C. For the rest of the year these temperatures drop off considerably making it too cold to swim.
Winters can get quite cold in Venice, with air temperatures frequently falling below freezing levels during the night. Snow can fall and canals can freeze during cold spells, but this has become far less common with the advancement of Climate Change in the past few years. Air temperatures during the winter range between 3°C and 7°C.
