Appropriately labelled as the sunniest city in France, Marseille’s hot mediterranean climate sees nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine per year. That’s close to 50% more than most other cities in France.
Marseille’s summers tend to be among the warmest in the country. Average air temperatures range between 20°C and 26°C between July and August before gradually cooling off as autumn rolls in. Winds from the Sahara Desert generally keep humidity down and the summer air feeling dry.
In the winter months, air temperatures fall to a range of 5°C to 12°C, with December through February being the coldest months.
September and October are the wettest months, seeing between 60mm and 70mm in each thirty day cycle. Precipitation continues through the winter and spring before tapering off again to a paltry 10mm to 25mm in the summer months.
