PHOTOS: Blast of heavy, wet snow coats Ontario like wintry cement
Intense bands of snow, gusty winds, and temperatures around freezing were ideal conditions for a thick coating of wet, sticky snow across Ontario.
A robust winter storm rolling across southern Ontario on Wednesday brought some of the heaviest snowfall accumulations we’ve seen in the region so far this winter.
Commuters hit the roads Wednesday evening to find snow falling faster than they could drive. Bands of heavy snow, temperatures hovering right around the freezing mark, and gusty winds teamed up to create dangerous travel conditions throughout the region.

Wednesday evening’s traffic in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) ground to a snail’s pace by sundown, with accidents or slowdowns reported on just about every major thoroughfare in the region.
Temperatures right around the zero-degree mark made for a wet, cement-like snow, the kind that’s heavy to shovel and eager to stick to almost every surface it touches. This made conditions especially challenging for commuters, as the viscous snow obscured car windows and street signs on Wednesday evening.
