Canadians eyeing their winter homes in Florida as Idalia bares down
Many Canadians are watching closely to see if Hurricane Idalia will impact their winter homes in Florida. The Weather Network spoke to a Nova Scotia woman who is watching hers through a doorbell camera
With Idalia bearing down on Florida’s west coast, Canadian snowbirds with property in The Sunshine State are keeping a close eye on the latest weather news.
Ann Mackay’s winter house is in Parrish, Fla., about an hour south from the Tampa airport, which she thought was a safe haven until recently.

All she can do now is check the camera on her doorbell, which allows her to look down her front walkway. But, other than that, it’s a waiting game.
“We don’t have any other cameras, so we’re basically at the mercy of our neighbours telling us what’s going on," said MacKay.
