You may need to pay extra attention to the forecast for Mother's Day plans
Will Mother Nature deliver a winning day for all the moms this Mother's Day? See the national weather divide shaping up
Mother's Day weekend is quickly approaching, and if your plans include bringing Mom outdoors, you may want to pay extra attention to your weather forecast. Especially considering the time of year, and how the middle of May can bring anything from extreme heat, and thunderstorms, to cooler weather and even snow.

Luckily, the weather extremes won't be too significant for this weekend, though we will definitely see a clear divide between the weather in Western Canada versus the East.
A ridge in Western Canada brings mostly warm and dry conditions
A dominating ridge of high pressure will keep much of Western Canada dry this weekend. Temperatures will be on quite the rise to end this week, continuing well into the weekend, as well.
Daytime highs of 20°C are likely across southern British Columbia, with some areas possibly even reaching 30°C in the valleys of the southern Interior. You could say the race is on to grab the country's first 30-degree reading of 2024, and what better way to celebrate mom than with the warmest weather of the year so far.
The ridge will begin to break down late in the weekend, though temperatures will remain in the mid-20s for most.
After soaking and record-setting rains hit southern Alberta and Saskatchewan this week, a much drier pattern is expected late week, continuing through mid-May, as well.
Much of the Prairies will reach 20°C, with mostly sunny skies helping to make mom's day.
It is possible however, for some rain showers to develop late Sunday for B.C.'s Interior and parts of Alberta.
A trough in Eastern Canada threatens periods of rain and unsettled weather
Outdoor plans for Mother's Day will be slightly trickier for some further east, as the trough over Eastern Canada threatens unsettled conditions throughout the weekend.
Weak systems will move across southern Ontario and Quebec, with periods of scattered showers possible at times on Saturday and Sunday. Neither day will be a washout however, and most of the time it won't be raining, with several sunny breaks allowing for some good outside time.
Keep in mind that temperatures will be several degrees cooler than seasonal on Saturday, staying cool for Mother's Day on Sunday, as well. There's no need to cancel any of your plans, but it'll be best to dress in layers and to have your jacket and umbrella on standby.

Another stronger system will push into Atlantic Canada, with rain and windy conditions likely for Friday and Saturday. Although Sunday is looking like the drier day for the region, we can't rule out the chance for some lingering showers, especially across Newfoundland on Sunday morning.
With the trough over Eastern Canada, temperatures will be sitting about 8-degrees below seasonal through the weekend. Only single digit highs are expected for Newfoundland.
Be sure to continue to check back for updates on the weather in your areas as we head into Mother's Day weekend.
