Flights resume after plane slides off tarmac in Halifax

Nova Scotia, along with the rest of the Maritimes, endured yet another winter storm on Monday, making for difficult road and air travel.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating after an Air Canada flight from Toronto slid off the tarmac shortly after landing in icy conditions in Halifax on Monday evening. None of the aircraft's 211 passengers were injured, according to CBC News.

Air Canada flight AC614 from Toronto touched down around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening while the region was in the grip of yet another strong winter storm, including several hours of freezing precipitation. According to passengers interviewed by CBC News, the plane skidded off the tarmac as it turned toward the gate

"They were about to make that turn that you turn off onto the sort of taxiing runway ... that takes you back towards the ... terminal and on that turn is when it skidded," Andrew Leitao, a CBC Nova Scotia employee who was on the plane, told the broadcaster.

The plane was unable to get to the gate, and passengers were eventually bussed to the terminal amid the poor weather conditions. The airport temporarily suspended both arriving and departing flight, which resumed after 9 p.m.

The Transportation Safety Board is now investigating.
