Girl seriously hurt in highway pileup near Grande Prairie
A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision on HIghway 2 north of Grande Prairie Wednesday morning.
Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a 911 call about the 16-vehicle collision at about 9:35 a.m.
The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of Highway 2, north of Emerson Trail, about 20 kilometres north of Grande Prairie.
EMS and fire department first responders treated numerous passengers on scene for minor injuries. Five people were taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said in a news release.

The 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital in critical condition. Her condition was later updated to stable, police said.
Northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 2 were blocked for more than an hour and detours were set up. Police have since re-opened the highway.
WEATHER A FACTOR
Police said weather and road conditions were factors in the crash.

Thick, heavy fog caused reduced visibility and icy roadways. Speed is also being investigated as a factor.
No charges have been laid. Police are continuing their investigation.
RCMP encourage motorists to reduce speed and allow extra time for travelling due to unpredictable conditions.
