Rainy relief to fall over B.C.'s South Coast through the weekend
The rainfall deficit for many areas in B.C. is coming to an end with an unfolding pattern change as we head into the weekend. Rain showers and thunderstorms are on tap
Some unsettled weather is ahead for B.C.'s Sunshine Coast, as one of the wettest patterns of the summer develops over the province.
This will be great news for the ongoing wildfires, and air quality concerns, though the threat for localized flooding increases amid steady rainfall rates, especially in areas that see embedded thunderstorms.

This will be the first substantial rain of the month across the South Coast, rivaling totals from late July in both Vancouver and Victoria. There will be more rainfall chances across the province into next week, as well.
Saturday night into Sunday: Rain returns to B.C.'s South Coast
A deepening low off the West Coast will funnel in moist, unstable air into the Strait of Georgia this weekend.
Heavy, steady rain looks to take shape over the Lower Mainland, Coastal Mountains and Vancouver Island. While the exact location for the heaviest rain is still uncertain, rainfall rates may reach 5-10 mm per hour or two at times.
This will be some of the heaviest rain the region has seen this month, with totals similar to what was last seen in late July. It'll take just 19.8 mm of rain to fall at Vancouver airport to beat total accumulations from the entire month of July in the area.
The rain will be accompanied by embedded thunderstorms.
Initial forecasts have 10-20 mm falling across the Lower Mainland, with heavier totals likely in higher elevations. Between 5-20 mm of rain is forecast for Vancouver Island, including Victoria.

Fire danger ratings remain at high or extreme ahead of this weekend, so the incoming rain will be welcomed news for impacted regions. It will also be beneficial to areas that fall under a moderate drought.
