Vancouverites get a glimpse of spring as cherry blossoms start to bloom
Spring is in the air with warmer temperatures and picturesque cherry blossoms blooming across Metro Vancouver.
For many residents who spoke with CBC News, cherry blossoms are a welcome sight that mark the changing of the seasons.

Many of Vancouver's cherry blossom trees were donated to the city in the 1930s by the mayors of Japanese cities Kobe and Yokohama to be planted around the war memorial in Vancouver's Stanley Park, which is dedicated to Japanese Canadian soldiers who fought in the First World War and beyond.

More trees were donated to the city by the consul general in the 1950s, which were planted around the city.
There are more than 40,000 cherry trees in the city, according to Destination Vancouver.

Vancouver's cherry blossoms draw tourists from across the globe, with tour companies offering flower viewing packages for thousands of dollars.

The annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival features several events throughout the city celebrating Japanese culture and the changing of the seasons.
This year it will run from March 29 to April 25.
