Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the street.
From one end of the globe to the other, young people have walked out of schools and workplaces in the name of the planet.
They're demanding action on the global climate crisis. In some cities, crowds numbered in the hundreds of thousands or, in the case of Berlin, Germany, the millions.
Event organizers want their local governments to know that the climate crisis can no longer be ignored.
There are nearly 5,000 separate events taking place in 150 countries, with more marches scheduled in the future.
The global climate strike -- which was inspired by 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg -- began in the Pacific islands and followed the sun across Australia, Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Next Friday, Thunberg will lead a climate rally at the UN headquarters in New York.
Additional walks in support of the rally are scheduled for Sept. 27.
